Are there any sneakers out there that are good for both running AND hiking? I’m going abroad and really only have room for one pair of bulky sneakers, but I’m going to be doing both running and hiking.

Your best bet is footwear designed for "Fast" or "Speed" hiking. They’re generally suitable for both. The example I’ve attached is Merrell with Gore-Tex lining and Vibram sole, all big names in the hiking footwear game. These should be light enough for running and durable enough for hiking. They are however a little low and consequently may not have the ankle support you’d need for high-level hiking.
Failing this, keep looking at speed hiking options and I’m sure you’ll find something that works for you both in functionality and budget.
Hope this helps!
Websearch for "trail running" shoes. I have friends who backpack in regular, old, sneakers… so if their shoes make it through this, a pair of trail running shoes should do even better. Something like this seems like it would work well. INOV8 Roclite 288 GTX http://www.runningwarehouse.com/descpageMRS-I8R288.html
